EBay said problems were occurring, and slowing down trade, when buyers left negative comments about sellers who then retaliated with their own views. From May, those selling on eBay will not be able to leave unfavourable or neutral messages about buyers. The move, which will affect users worldwide, has angered many sellers. Sellers say it will leave them unprotected.

read more | digg storyAli Sabkihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05342304792834632159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8235231388089651381.post-5633176256058020212008-02-06T14:41:00.001+08:002008-02-06T15:06:12.435+08:00Official: 16GB iPhone available and 32GB iPod touch, $499 Out of the rumor mill comes the 16GB iPhone, now official. Ever since the 16GB iPod touch was announced in September, we all knew it was just a matter of time until Apple could bung the same NAND chip into their chubbier iPhone. The Surprise is a new 32GB iPod touch for the same $499. Both are available immediately.Update: We just spoke with Apple, who told us that by available immediately, that means both US and international customers. They should start making their way to stores over the next couple of days, too, so call ahead to check stock if you're buying offline. Also, Cupertino had no comment on whether there were any other under-the-hood hardware changes in these new models.

read more | digg storyAli Sabkihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05342304792834632159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8235231388089651381.post-62591341146345690822008-02-06T14:39:00.001+08:002008-02-06T15:05:11.065+08:00Top 100 Essential Mac ApplicationsAn up to date list of the top 100 Apple Mac applications. Here's the quote from the Microsoft Press Release:

"Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) today announced that it has made a proposal to the Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) Board of Directors to acquire all the outstanding shares of Yahoo! common stock for per share consideration of $31 representing a total equity value of approximately $44.6 billion. Microsoft's proposal would allow the Yahoo! shareholders to elect to receive cash or a fixed number of shares of Microsoft common stock, with the total consideration payable to Yahoo! shareholders consisting of one-half cash and one-half Microsoft common stock. The offer represents a 62 percent premium above the closing price of Yahoo! common stock on Jan. 31, 2008."

Whether Yahoo! accepts the offer, or enters into negotiations, remains to be seen. First thoughts here at Download Squad? Assuming it goes ahead, what does that mean for the likes of Flickr? Does this suggest that Microsoft is choosing to acquire the momentum of an already-well-known services company instead of internally developing its Windows Live (nee MSN) services? The deal is primarily focused on the bringing together of Microsoft and Yahoo!'s advertising platforms, but the other services that form part of Yahoo! certainly add another dimension to the deal.

More on this as we have it -- Yahoo has, at the time of writing, not published any press releases about the Microsoft offer.

Update: Microsoft is to host a Press Conference Call at 05:30am PST / 08:30am EST to discuss the proposal.
Update 2: Yahoo! stock is up 60% in pre-market trading.
Update 3: Yahoo! is to "evaluate this proposal carefully and promptly in the context of Yahoo!'s strategic plans and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders."

you might also want to read this related articles:
http://grouchygeek.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/02/01/yahoo-needs-microsofts-help/
and this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/technology/2008/02/microsoft_and_yahoo_perfect_pa.html
Ali Sabkihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05342304792834632159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8235231388089651381.post-53960376768324141052008-02-01T12:51:00.001+08:002008-02-01T13:05:14.568+08:00The Worst Workout Machine Ever - The Hawaii Chair"If You Can Sit, You Can Get Fit, The Hawaii Chair" This might be the most absurd invention idea ever. Those shortcomings begin with a max 3.1 megapixel resolution for still images and no optical zoom to speak of, but you will be able to use the device as a PMP, a voice recorder, and an e-book reader, although we're sure even Mustek must have had a chuckle at including that as one of the "6-in1" features. That said, there was no explicit denial of an Android-related product (there never is), so the optimistic ones out there can go on hoping for a Dell phone to solve all their problems. Hey, if Garmin can do it, what's stopping them?

[Via Electronista]
Ali Sabkihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05342304792834632159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8235231388089651381.post-65630453563650587072008-02-01T11:22:00.000+08:002008-02-01T11:34:54.222+08:00Pirate Bay Founders sued, site lives on
It's hard to keep a good (or bad) pirate down. Just like Captain Hook, Jack Sparrow, or Patchy the Pirate, popular BitTorrent tracker The Pirate Bay seems to have at least nine lives. In a completely unsurprising move, Swedish authorities have filed charges against the founders of the site, claiming they have facilitated the P2P transfers of copyrighted files, which you know, is true.

Sure, the four defendants could certainly be found guilty. But here's the thing: the site isn't going anywhere. Once it became clear that prosecution was imminent in 2006, the Pirate Bay moved its servers outside of Sweden, meaning that country's government doesn't have the authority to shut them down. In fact, the people who run the site claim they don't even know where the servers are at this point.

Of course, even if authorities in Sweden, the US, or any other country concerned with copyright law could shut down the Pirate Bay, there are plenty of other BitTorrent tracking services out there. And because of the decentralized nature of BitTorrent file transfers, there's virtually no way to eliminate all illegal file transfers.

On the other hand, people used to say the same thing about digital music transfers. And while people certainly still trade copyrighted music files, Apple, Amazon, and other companies have made it easier to buy your music online than to steal it. Wouldn't it be nice if copyright holders focus on providing users with good reasons to pay for movies and software rather than spending time and money going after pirates.

source: dowloadsquadAli Sabkihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05342304792834632159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8235231388089651381.post-31575131640749670142008-01-31T12:27:00.000+08:002008-01-31T12:54:51.252+08:00Keep your private files into password protected Lockbox
My Lockbox™ is a security software enabling you to password protect any folder on your computer.

The protected folder (lockbox) is hidden from any user and application of your system, including Administrator and System itself. Some are must-haves, while others are a waste of time. Climb aboard for a look at 10 of the best BitTorrent utilities, tools, and resources for finding and managing your BitTorrent downloads quickly and efficiently.

10. Use BitTorrent to Send Files

Of course BitTorrent is a great place to go looking for files, but you can actually take advantage of BitTorrent's distributed download protocol to share your own files. This guide details how to create your own torrent to distribute a file on your computer. The guide covers creating the torrent with the popular, Windows-only uTorrent, but the feature is available in almost any BitTorrent client.

9. Start BitTorrent Downloads Over IM

Using IM applications like Pidgin or the Mac-only Adium, you can set up your IM client to automatically accept downloads from specific users (namely, you) and then save the file to a folder that your BitTorrent client watches for new torrent files (in Pidgin you'll need to go to Tools -> Plugins and enable the Autoaccept plugin). Most clients like uTorrent (Windows) and Transmission (*nix) support folder monitoring, so if your BitTorrent client is running it'll detect the file you've sent yourself and automatically start downloading the torrent. This method doesn't allow for very advanced remote management (like #5 below), but if all you want is a quick method for starting a new download, it's quick and easy.

8. Download BitTorrent in Your Browser

I'd always recommend using a dedicated BitTorrent client whenever you can, but sometimes installing or running another app just isn't an option. In those cases, web application BitLet is a perfect solution. It runs BitTorrent downloads through an applet directly in your web browser; all you have to do is point it to the torrent file. (Read more)
You can even stream music directly from a torrent in your browser with WeStream, BitLet's other in-browser BitTorrent tool. It doesn't have all the tools available to less specialized clients like uTorrent or Transmission, but it does work well to automatically download a season's worth of television while it's happening. (Read more)
Sometimes a slow connection is the result of intentional BitTorrent throttling by your internet service provider. In addition to switching the default port your BitTorrent client is using, there are tons of other methods—like turning on encryption or adjusting the way your client behaves—that can help fool your ISP and speed up your downloads. (Read more)

5. Remote Control Your BitTorrent Downloads with uTorrent's WebUI or Transmission's Clutch

You're gaga for BitTorrent, and these two tools let you control and manage all of your BitTorrent downloads from the comfort of your web browser—no matter where you are. Both applications can handle almost any feature of the desktop version (and both look very similar, as well). Just find the one that fits the operating system you're using and get started with your remote access. uTorrent even has a special web interface for the iPhone.

4. Set Up a TV Season Pass with Ted or TVShows

Whether you opt for Ted (all platforms) or TVShows (Mac OS X only), these apps ensure you'll no longer need to dig for the latest and greatest episodes of your favorite TV shows week after week. You just point them to what you like, and they automatically download new episode torrents as they become available.
3. Search the Best of the Best with YouTorrent
Rather than get into an argument over the best torrent tracker/search engine, might I instead submit YouTorrent, a meta search engine that scours some of the best BitTorrent trackers for downloads and sorts the results by number of seeds. I know it's new, and who knows if it'll last (it doesn't even have ads yet), but—god willing—YouTorrent is currently the easiest place to look for a new, healthy torrent (barring some really good private tracker that most of us are not members of). It's popped up already a lot in this list, from its torrent folder monitoring to it's snazzy remote control features, so if you're looking for a great client for your Mac, Transmission is the best on the market. (Read more)

1. uTorrent

(Windows)
It's unfortunately Windows-only for now (that may change sometime this year), but uTorrent is bar-none the best BitTorrent client you'll find. It's fast, lightweight, and full-featured (as you've seen above). If there's one Windows application I miss when I'm working away from Windows, uTorrent is that client.

Honorable mention update: I completely forgot to mention PeerGuardian2, a freeware IP blocker designed to protect your privacy from blacklisted IPs (like anti-P2P groups who might want to track your activity). It's not a sure thing, but a lot of people consider it a reassuring layer of protection.

If you're not new to the world of BitTorrent, then chances are your list may differ from mine. If there's one thing avid file sharers are passionate about, it's their favorite clients and methods, so let's hear what would have made your list in the comments.

source: Lifehacker

Ali Sabkihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05342304792834632159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8235231388089651381.post-50025263841490365842008-01-31T12:11:00.000+08:002008-01-31T12:17:16.297+08:00Organizer Mockup for Mozilla Firefox 3.0
Mozilla developers just post this screenshot of Firefox 3.0 unified bookmarks, history and downloads manager.
